Togo Shrine (Jinja) is a Shinto shrine located in Harajuku area, the city is popular for young generation especially and epricentre of Japanese Kawaii culture meaning “pretty” alongside Meiji Jingu Shrine and Yoyogi Park. It is located one of most busy area between Shinjuku and Shibuya on the Yamanote Line.
The shrine was establised in 1940, and worships Togo Heihachiro (1848-1934) who is a legendary admiral in the imperial Japanese Navy. He is famous as the person who destroyed the Russian Baltic Fleet during the Russo-Japanese war in 1905, the result was the victory of Japan. Unfortunately, the shrine was destroyed in Second world war and current buildings are reconstructed ones made by concrete.
Because of the history, Togo Shrine is known as power (spiritual) spot for “Victory Fortune” and is popular for people who face the day of important match like atelete.
There are smaller shrine in the are of Togo Shrine which dedicated to the submarine crewmen who fought during the Pacific war. Also visitors able to enjoy Japanese garden outside the shrine.
